The New (& Cutest) Addition to Our Kitchen
Behold! The newest addition to our kitchen. We hung the pot rack of my dreams today and I cannot believe we didn’t install one from the very beginning.
When I first started dreaming up the moodboard of our kitchen, I poured over the designs of English-style spaces all over Pinterest. The English kitchens I used as inspiration all had the same thing in common: they were elegant but also approachable and warm.
A common element in most of the kitchens I loved the most were pot racks. Pot racks are historically functional fixtures for hanging pots, dish cloths and utensils for cooking. Nowadays, they are used more as design elements to display vintage items like copper pots (my favorite).
I always intended on installing a pot rack but I chickened out. Why mess with a perfect stone backsplash? But as the months went by I couldn’t help but feel that something was missing. I loved the elegant, timeless feel of our kitchen but where was the cozy factor?
David and decided to live with painters tape hung across the back of our range for about a month before finally deciding to go for it. I chose this beautiful brushed brass pot rack from Mcgee & Co. and we had it installed by our countertop fabricators to ensure the protection of our stone.
Pot rack installation can easily be a DIY project; however, our installation was a little more difficult because our installers needed to drill four small holes through Sea Pearl Quartzite. Quartzite is very strong and to ensure the stone didn’t crack, utmost care and precision needed to be taken.
Now that it’s up, our kitchen feels even more special (and cozy) than I thought was possible and I find myself admiring my copper pots from across the room. The lesson here? When it comes to YOUR home, go with your gut — I’m so glad I did!
