One Room Challenge Spring 2022 Week 2: The Dining Room
I am so excited to be participating in my first One Room Challenge! I was nervous to sign up and therefore I am a week late in getting started, but I am so excited to take on this challenge — so lets get to it!
For those of you who have never heard of this event, the ORC is an 8-week challenge where fellow DIYers and Designers tackle a room in their home and transform it! It’s a chance to connect with fellow designers, challenge our skills, and create a beautiful space! Be sure to stop by the ORC’s official website where you can check out links to and follow along with hundreds of guest participants as they makeover their spaces!
The Before
I am going to be tackling our dining room because it already has a great foundation and only needs some cosmetic updates to really make it special! We have already replaced the cracked windows and installed herringbone floors so right now the room is a blank canvas ready for the magic of wallpaper, paint, and lighting!
Here’s a list of what is in the plans for the dining room:
install wainscoting around the perimeter of the room
paint wainscoting and trim
install wallpaper
hang light fixture
reupholster dining chairs (DIY)
The Moodboard
The first thing in the plans is getting wainscoting installed around the perimeter of the room and (surprise!) we’ve actually already started this! Next we’ll have the room painted in a moody navy blue, install this gorgeous House of Hackney wallpaper and hang a new brass chandelier.
If you follow me on Instagram, you know I have already started gathering some really special vintage pieces for our dining room. I will be incorporating a vintage dining table, a set of six vintage dining chairs, and silver plated candle sconces I found on FB Marketplace. I think all of the traditional elements will tie in perfectly with the style of our historic home.
I’ve already had our dining table refinished in a dark stain but will be reupholstering the dining chairs in a green velvet fabric from Calico Corners.
I love that the traditional layout of our home allows us to have a formal dining room for hosting dinner parties, birthday celebrations and family meals! I want this room to be the perfect backdrop for all of those special memories we have yet to make in this home and I am excited to bring you all along over the next 8 weeks!
